What is a home accessories swap anyway?
Think of a clothing swap where everyone brings the clothes they no longer wear
and trade them for clothes they are excited about adding to their wardrobe. This
is exactly the same only folks are trading lamps, rugs, picture frames, candles and
candle holders, art, etc.
How does it work?
Come with 3 or more items in good condition to swap for free. Folks will swap in
2 rounds of 30, picking 2 items per round, so everyone has a chance to get the
coolest stuff. By the end, what has not been taken can become yours or go to
Children’s Hospital Thrift Stores.
Why isn’t the event free?
We simply need to cover our costs for venue rental, food and beverage.
Do I have to pay for the items I pick out?
No way! Just bring 3 items or more to contribute to the loot, plus your entrance
fee of only $10 and all the swapping is free.
If I bring several candleholders can I leave with something like a rug?
Absolutely! You are not limited by what you bring, however, if everyone only
brings candleholders there won’t be any rugs to take home. We find that there
tends to be a great mix of items and everyone walks away with just what they need.
If I see a set of ornaments or plates that I like, do I only get to take two
of them for my "2 items per round"?
A set of anything is considered one item. So if you see a set of ornaments that are
perfect for your tree, keep looking, you get to take one more cool find in that round!
Is there a limit to what I can take home?
Folks will initially swap in 2 rounds of 30, picking 2 items per round, so everyone
has a chance to get the coolest stuff. By the end, what has not been taken can
become yours or will be donated to Children’s Hospital Thrift Stores.
What happens to the items I bring that are not taken?
All items not taken can either be re-claimed by you, the owner, or they will be
donated to Children’s Hospital Thrift Stores.
Are there certain items I cannot bring?
Please refer to the current Swap page to see the list of acceptable and
non-acceptable items.
Can I come even if I don’t have anything to swap?
So wish you could, but if we let that happen there would not be enough items to
swap, and that would be no swap at all. But, you could volunteer to help on the floor.
How is this different from a clothing swap or the annual ski swap?
Typically at a ski or bike swap, and others like it, vendors bring new and used
equipment and take your old stuff for a discount on the new items you purchase.
It is like a big sale. There is no cost for the items at the Home Accessories Swap, making it more like a
clothing swap in this way -- folks bring clothes that they no longer wear and trade
them for clothes they are excited about adding to their wardrobe. All the clothes
are free! At the Home Accessories Swap you need to bring at least 3 or more home
accessories in good condition that you no longer use and swap them for ones you love.
All the home accessories are free!
